TNN | Apr 14, 2016, 10.12 AM ISTMadurai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday told the Madurai bench of Madras high court that it would soon file its report on the activities of Mose Ministries, which ran an unauthorised home for girls in Trichy. Accepting that, the bench directed pastor Gideon Jacob of Mose Ministries to deposit Rs 6 lakh with the Trichy district social welfare officer to manage the home, at present run by a collector-led committee based on the directions of the high court bench.
The case against Mose Ministries is before the Madurai bench. When it came up for hearing before the division bench comprising Justice S Manikumar and Justice S S Sundar on Wednesday, CBI's counsel S Jayakumar told that investigation was in progress and the status report will be filed soon.
Meanwhile, additional advocate general K Chellapandian sought more money to manage the home. The court then directed pastor Gideon to pay Rs 6 lakh and adjourned the case by a week.
It may be recalled that a non-government organization (NGO) filed a public interest litigation seeking CBI probe into the activities of the home by levelling serious allegations against it, including illegal detention of 89 girls. The court appointed a district judge to ascertain the fact, who, in turn, conducted an inspection at the home and filed a report saying that safety and security of the girls were in imminent danger and pointed out violations of mandatory provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Following that, the court had directed to appoint a committee led by the Trichy collector on December 7. Subsequently, on January 20 the court directed the CBI to form a team headed by deputy superintendent of police who is well versed in dealing with human trafficking cases, to conduct investigations into the allegations of trafficking and abuse of inmates.
The court also said the team could avail the service of National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences to counsel the inmates and to make them free from any obsessive mindset, if they had.
Besides, the investigation team was supposed to inquire with doctors and nurses employed at hospitals in Usilampatti and to do DNA tests on people who claimed to be the parents of some girls.
