HC asks SPC to take over probe in 2 cases registered for forcible conversions
A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the State Police Chief to take over and conduct a comprehensive investigation in two cases, one registered by the Perinthalmanna police station in Malappuram and another by the Cherpulassery police station in Palakkad in connection with forcible conversions.
The court also directed the State Police Chief to investigate the activities of organisations which are involved in the cases.
The court ordered that such investigation should be completed as expeditiously as possible and the persons found guilty should be brought to book.
The court passed the directives while declaring null and void the marriage of a woman who got converted to Islam and married a Muslim man. The marriage of the woman was allegedly conducted on December 19, 2016 by the Puthur Juma Masjid.
The court made the declaration and granted custody of the woman to her parents when a habeas corpus petition filed by K.M. Ashokan of Kottayam came up for hearing.
The woman had been staying at SNV Sadanam, Ernakulam, on a court directive after she was produced before the court.
