முதலமைச்சர் மு.க. ஸ்டாலின் அவர்கள் இந்த விருதை வழங்குவார் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது. ஆனால், இந்த அறிவிப்பு உடனடியாக வலதுசாரி வட்டாரங்களில் கடும் விமர்சனத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது. தென்மொழிக்கு விருது வழங்குவது டி.எம்.கே. அரசின் “பாரபட்சமான” தேர்வு என்று அறம் சார்ந்த விமர்சகர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர்.

தென்மொழி சௌந்தரராஜன், அமெரிக்காவில் வசிக்கும் தலித் உரிமை என்ற பெயரில் இந்திய விரோத ஆர்வலர். அவர் Equality Labs என்ற சிவில் உரிமைகள் அமைப்பின் நிறுவனர் மற்றும் நிர்வாக இயக்குநர். இந்த அமைப்பு, தலித் மற்றும் ஒடுக்கப்பட்ட சமூகங்களின் உரிமைகளுக்காகப் போராடுவதாகக் கூறுகிறது.

விமர்சனங்கள்: கலிஸ்தான் தொடர்பு, ஹிந்து விரோதம் மற்றும் பிரிவினைவாதம்

The Commune கட்டுரை, தென்மொழியை “காலிஸ்தான் தொடர்புடைய ஹிந்து விரோத, பிராமண வெறுப்பு சாதி ஆர்வலர்” என்று கடுமையாக விமர்சிக்கிறது:

• காலிஸ்தான பயங்கரவாத தொடர்பு: 2019இல், இந்திய அரசால் தீவிரவாதியாக அறிவிக்கப்பட்ட குர்பத்வந்த் சிங் பன்னூன் (Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, Sikhs for Justice நிறுவனர்) உடன் ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சியில் மேடை பகிர்ந்தார். Equality Labs, Alliance for Justice and Accountability (AJA) கூட்டணியில் உள்ளது, இதில் ISI தொடர்புடைய அமைப்புகளும் உள்ளன.
• ஹிந்து விரோதம்: Equality Labs-இன் DEI பயிற்சிகள் பிராமணர்களை இழிவுபடுத்துவதாகக் கூறி, Network Contagion Research Institute ஆய்வு விமர்சித்தது. மகா கும்பமேளாவை “இஸ்லாமோஃபோபிக்” என்று அழைத்தார், யோகாவை “டி-பிராமினைஸ்” செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று கூறினார். 2018இல் ஜாக் டார்ஸியுடன் “Smash Brahminical Patriarchy” போஸ்டர் சர்ச்சை.

Stanford University Cancels Talk by Thenmozhi Soundararajan: A Victory for Indian Americans Fighting Caste Misconceptions  

 Stanford University has cancelled a talk by Thenmozhi Soundararajan, an anti-Hindu radical activist and the Executive Director of Equality Labs. Soundararajan is a Dalit American commentator on religion, race, caste, gender, technology, and justice, and the author of The Trauma of Caste. The talk, titled “Dalit Journalism, Activism & Leadership: Firesidechat with Kavita Devi and Thenmozhi Soundararajan,” was being sponsored by the university's Center of South Asia.

The decision to cancel the talk is being hailed as a victory for Indian Americans who have been fighting against hatred as a result of the false and baseless caste survey from Equality Labs. The report by Equality Labs established a perilous pattern of distorting the Hindu identity through a caste-centered examination carried out by authors who exhibit inadequate comprehension of surveys, a prejudiced outlook towards Hinduism, and a profound lack of knowledge about Varna and Jati.

It is important to understand the context of this decision. Caste is a complex issue in India, and it is often misunderstood and misinterpreted in the West. Caste is barely an issue in North America. Most Hindus living in North America do not even know their caste nor do they subscribe to such a mentality. 

Unfortunately, anti-Hindu activists like Soundararajan often use the issue of caste to attack Hinduism and Hindu identity. This is not only inaccurate, but it is also harmful and divisive. As Executive Director of Equality Labs, she pushed false information 

The cancellation of Soundararajan’s talk is a victory for those who believe in promoting informed and respectful dialogue. It is important for universities to uphold academic integrity and to promote informed and respectful dialogue. Soundararajan’s views are based on misinformation and prejudice, and they have no place in academic discourse. While it is important to have a nuanced and informed discussion about caste, this discussion should not be used to attack Hinduism or Hindus. Universities have a responsibility to uphold academic integrity and to promote informed and respectful dialogue, and Stanford University’s decision to cancel the talk was the right thing to do.
