Kannur: Badiadukka police in Kasaragod district have registered a case against 23 people on the charge of raising slogans and bursting crackers, allegedly supporting the Pakistan cricket team, which defeated India in the Champion's Trophy final held in England on June 18. According to the police, the case has been registered on the complaint of local BJP leader Rajesh Shetty, after a preliminary investigation. The case has been regis tered under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 286 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance), against three people, identified as Razak, Mazood and Siraj, and twenty others.
Though the complaint has apparently said that the youths raised pro-Pakistan slogans, the police said the case had been registered basically for creating public nuisance. According to Kasaragod district police chief K G Simon, as of now the case had nothing to do with sedition or any other related charges. Badiadukka police said it would decide whether any other sections of the IPC needed to be added, after a detailed probe.
