2G scam accused A Raja keeps a low profile
TNN | Apr 20, 2016, 08.52 AM ISTCHENNAI/PERAMBALUR: Scam-tainted DMK functionary A Raja, who has been keeping a low profile, surfaced in his hometown Perambalur for the first time on Tuesday. Once-close to DMK boss M Karunanidhi, Raja was briefly pictured on TV sharing the dais with MK Stalin.
The 2G scam accused spoke for a couple of minutes, wound up quickly to allow Stalin to take centre-stage.Those perfunctory remarks may well be the only words he may speak at a public meeting this time. DMK sources said the party hasn't drawn up a schedule for Raja or, for former telecom minister and Karunanidhi's grandnephew Dayanidhi Maran, accused in the Aircel-Maxis case.
Perhaps singed by the scam in the 2011 assembly election when the DMK won 23 seats, the party is being cautious, keeping its tainted leaders away from public glare. Kanimozhi, another 2G case accused, has, however, hit the campaign trail in full vigour. "The party has chosen to free Raja considering he has to travel frequently to Delhi," a senior leader said.
