NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Two women were charged with child neglect after a baby was left in a hot car outside of a strip club in Tennessee as the 9-month-old’s mother was auditioning on stage for a job, according to according to ABC-affiliate WSB-TV.
Kelsey McMurtry, 24, was auditioning Thursday afternoon at Deja Vu Showgirls in downtown Nashville. Her daughter was outside in a car with the windows rolled up. Someone passing by saw the girl and called police.
It was 72 degrees outside but temperatures inside the car had likely reached at least 100 degrees, according to authorities. The girl was wearing a heavy coat and drenched with sweat.
The baby was taken to the hospital for treatment, where the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services also responded.
McMurtry’s friend, 19-year-old Summer Taylor, said she had been watching the infant during the audition, according to WSMV, but witnesses said she was inside the strip club the entire time.
