The White House said on Monday that Anthony Scaramucci, named by President Donald Trump as communications director only 10 days ago, was leaving the post. The change comes days after Scaramucci delivered a profanity-laced tirade against other top Trump aides -and hours after Trump swore in John Kelly ,a new chief of staff, to bring discipline to his West Wing.““Anthony Scaramucci will be leaving his role as White House communications director. Mr Scaramucci felt it was best to give Chief of Staff John Kelly a clean slate and the ability to build his own team,“ the White House said in a statement.
Scaramucci's abrupt departure comes just 10 days after the wealthy New York financier was brought on to the West Wing staff, a move that convulsed an already chaotic White House and led to the departures of Sean Spicer, the former press secretary , and Reince Priebus, the president's first chief of staff.
Priebus resigned last Friday after Scaramucci posted and then deleted a tweet which many interpreted as an accusation and a threat against the former chief of staff. Scaramucci also called a reporter to attack Priebus as a “paranoid schizophre nic“ and accuse him of leaking information to the media. During the on-the-record phone call, he also made vulgar statements about chief strategist Steve Bannon.
The decision to remove Scaramucci, who had boasted about reporting directly to the president not the chief of staff, John F Kelly, came at Kelly's request, sources said.Kelly made clear to members of the White House staff at a meeting on Monday morning that he is in charge.
Scaramucci is the third White House communications director to leave the post. The position had been vacant since May , when Mike Dubke left after about three months on the job. Sean Spicer, the former White House press secretary , assumed some of the communications director role before he resigned when Scaramucci was hired on July 21.
