Israeli Court Acquits Settler Who Assaulted A Nun
An Israeli court absolved Israeli settler Yona Schreiber of wrongdoing, despite their being a video of the targeted assault on the Christian Nun in occupied Jerusalem.
The excuse was that the settler was suffering from a psychotic episode, so therefore he cannot be held criminally liable. Attacks on Nuns, Priests & Christians wearing the Cross are common place, with settlers being the highest offenders.
An Isr*eli court has acquitted a Jewish man who attacked a French nun in occupied East Jerusalem, despite the assault being captured on CCTV and sparking widespread condemnation.
The court ruled that Yona Schreiber was experiencing a ‘psychotic episode’ when he pushed the nun to the ground and kicked her in the Old City in April. The court found him not criminally responsible for his actions and ordered that he be held in a psychiatric hospital for up to six years.
The CCTV footage of the attack sparked outrage and renewed concerns over growing harassment and attacks against Christian clergy and pilgrims by Jewish extremists in Jerusalem’s Old City.
The nun struck her head against a stone block during the assault and suffered injuries to her face and leg.
In the past few years in Jerusalem's Old City there have been regular cases of religious Jews spitting and acting aggressively towards those wearing Christian religious dress or symbols. Church properties have been vandalised and there have also been bitter disputes caused by settler takeovers.
