TANGEDCO did not sign any 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the Adani Group in 2011. Instead, in 2015, TANGEDCO and the Adani Group signed a 25-year PPA to procure up to 648 MW of solar power generated in Kamudhi, Ramanathapuram district. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Notable Disputes and Developments:
- Tariff Revision: The projects missed their initial commissioning deadlines, which led to a legal dispute. Ultimately, TNERC upheld TANGEDCO’s decision to apply a revised, lower tariff of ₹5.10 per unit from April 2016 onwards. [1]
- Kamuthi Solar Plant: The facility constructed in Kamudhi became one of the world's largest single-location solar power plants. [1, 2]
- Subsequent RPO Power Purchases: In 2024, TANGEDCO additionally proposed purchasing 500 MW of solar power through SECI (Solar Energy Corporation of India) to meet Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPO) without having direct commercial links to Adani's older state-level PPAs. [1]
