Saudi Arabia has executed the prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, the interior ministry said.
He was among 47 people put to death after being convicted of terrorism offences, it said in a statement.
Sheikh Nimr was a vocal supporter of the mass anti-government protests that erupted in Eastern Province in 2011, where a Shia majority have long complained of marginalisation.
Shia-led Iran said Saudi Arabia would pay a "high price" for the execution.
A foreign ministry spokesman said Riyadh "supports terrorists... while executing and suppressing critics inside the country".
Iranian state TV reported that the Saudi charge d'affaires in Iran had been summoned to the foreign ministry.
Iran is the main regional rival of Sunni-ruled Saudi Arabia.
At least one protest march was held in Qatif, in Eastern Province, where security has been raised.

Protesters shouted the slogans "The people want the fall of the regime", and "Down with the al-Saud family", reminiscent of the 2011 protests.
The BBC understands that among those executed was a man convicted of shooting dead a freelance cameraman on an assignment for the BBC, Simon Cumbers, in 2004.
Adel al-Dubayti was sentenced in November 2014 for his role in multiple al-Qaeda attacks including the one in the capital Riyadh in which Cumbers was killed and which also left reporter Frank Gardner critically injured.

The executions were carried out simultaneously in 12 locations across Saudi Arabia.
Those also put to death include Sunnis convicted of involvement in al-Qaeda-linked terror attacks in 2003. Of the 47 executed, one was a Chadian national while another was Egyptian. The rest are Saudis.
Saudi Arabia's top cleric, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al al-Sheikh, defended the executions, calling them a "mercy to the prisoners" as it would prevent them committing more crimes, Associated Press reported.

As they moved in to arrest Sheikh Nimr, the Saudis were well aware that this was a case that would cause ructions.
Here was a prominent, outspoken cleric who articulated the feelings of those in the country's Shia minority who feel marginalised and discriminated against. This was a figure active on the sensitive Sunni-Shia sectarian fault line that creates tension in the Kingdom and far beyond.
As the Shia power in the region, Iran takes huge interest in the affairs of Shia minorities in the Middle East. And it was inevitable that Tehran and Riyadh would clash over the treatment of Sheikh Nimr.
The Iranians had warned that the death sentence handed to him should not be carried out. But one of the principal concerns of the Saudis is what they see as the growing influence of Iran in places like Syria, Iraq and elsewhere. So perhaps it is not so surprising that they were not going to be swayed by Iranian pressure in this most sensitive case in their own backyard.

The international rights group Reprieve called the executions "appalling", saying at least four of those killed, including Sheikh Nimr, were put to death for offences related to political protest.
Protests broke out in early 2011 in the oil-rich Eastern Province in the wake of the Arab Spring.
Sheikh Nimr's arrest in the following year, during which he was shot, triggered days of protests in which three people were killed.

Men Harassed by Women in Saudi Arabian Mall

Saudi men complain of harassment by women in shopping centre

Male shoppers complained about being cat-called and followed by women

One of the biggest shopping centres in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has officially recorded 16 cases of harassment of men by women.
Male shoppers complained about being cat-called and followed by women, with most of the complains relating to verbal harassment, the Saudi Gazette reports.
The centre's security department says CCTV footage supports the men's claims. The videos have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
The newspaper suggests the men did not file formal complains because they feared "social stigmatisation".
In Saudi Arabia, religious police enforce a strict policy of gender segregation, often harassing women who do not meet conservative standards of dress in public, according to a 2005 report by the US Human Rights think-tank Freedom House.
Like many Gulf countries, Saudi Arabia has no laws against harassment. Most cases go unreported by women, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reports.
However, over the past two years Riyadh's Justice Ministry recorded 4,000 cases of sexual harassment. d by the paper suggested the solution was to enforce even stricter punishments and restrictions against women in public.

Prosecutors in St. Charles County, Missouri, have charged the mother of a 4 month-old infant girl with abuse and second degree murder after allowing her boyfriend to rape her baby, which resulted in the child’s death.
Mother

Prosecutors say that 25-year-old Jessica Lynn Howell was aware that her boyfriend, Jordan Lafayette Prince, had previous convictions for sexual offense against a minor. Still yet, she sent text messages giving permission for him to have sex with her infant daughter.
St. Charles Prosecuting Attorney Tim Lohmar said, “In those text messages she suggested and encouraged some unspeakable things. It is very, very disturbing.”
The complaint goes on to allege that Howell took Ashlynn to Prince’s home to spend the night at the time Ashlynn was murdered.

The highly disturbing complaint says Ashlynn died from strangulation, and being anally sodomized. The infant suffered petechial hemorrhages to her lower neck, abdomen, neck, chest legs and back. She further suffered contusions to her neck, under her chin and to her thymus. Also, hemorrhages to her thyroid, larynx and trachea. The infant also suffered blunt force trauma to the left side of her head causing a laceration in her ear and a hemorrhage near her skull. She suffered multiple tears to her anus, a massive laceration to her rectum, with massive hematoma in the pelvis area.
The cause of death however, were the injuries to her anus and rectum, even before the strangulation took place.

Jeanie Mae Carpenter

London: A mother has been given life imprisonment for the rape of her 12-year-old daughter. Jeanie Mae Carpenter, 37, from Ohio, pleads guilty to helping her boyfriend James John Kirksey, already a registered sex offender, rape the girl.
A Belmont County court heard how Carpenter held down her daughter as the 32-year-old man raped the girl on multiple occasions, The Independent reported. It is unclear how many times the child was raped, or when the sexual abuse began. Prosecutor Dan Dry said: “She reported it to a relative that mom’s boyfriend had been abusing her for the last two weeks.
“Multiple counts of rape committed by the male, and at least one incident of rape where the mom of the child actually physically held the child down to assist this male.”
