Showcause notice issued to Coimb atore school for forcing students to get a haircut
COIMBATORE: The district school education department has issued a showcause notice to Nirmala Matha Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Kuniyamuthur in Coimbatore for forcing students of Classes 9 to 12 to get a haircut on the school campus on Monday.
Following the complaints by the parents of the students, officials from the office of the inspector of matriculation schools visited the school on Tuesday for an inquiry.
"The school authorities told us that around 60 boys from classes 9 to12 had been sporting long and stylish hairstyle. The school had called a few hairdressers and forced these boys to get a haircut," an official of the inspector of matriculation schools said.
"The school authorities said the teachers and the management had warned the boys against sporting stylish hairstyles. But the boys had not paid any attention to the warnings," the official said.
According to officials, the school authorities have accepted that they had called hairdressers from outside and forced students to get a haircut.
"A preliminary inquiry is over, and we have issued a showcause notice to the school. It is expected that the school will submit its explanation on Monday," said the official.
"The inspector of matriculation schools will review the matter, and the inquiry report will be forwarded to the senior officials of the department. Based on the report, suitable action will be taken," said an education department official.
