DMK leader and Minister K. Ponmudi in a 2025 speech made derogatory comparisons between Vaishnavite and Saivite religious markers by likening in to sexual postures
Since the filth and vulgarity is spewed in Tamil, it is difficult for the rest of the country to truly grasp the level of depth of depravity exhibited by Dravidoid politicians in public discourse.
The level of misogyny and crass vulgarity (including the explicit invocation of female anatomy and a constant stream of profanity) is so commonplace in this discourse that it is difficult to find an equivalence anywhere else. One must also add that it is lapped up and cheered on by vast swathe of people (though some resistance is noticeable recently)
This was an open and shut case of hate speech but apparently it now hinges on the fine line between protected free speech and deliberate provocation. The courts set to determine if Ponmudi’s rhetoric crosses the threshold into hate speech under the laws
