 "ஜாதி போடாத சான்றிதழ் வேண்டும்" என்று செல்லமாணிக்கம் என்பவரது கோரிக்கையை தாசில்தார் (Tahsildar, Thiruppathur Taluk, Sivagangai District) மறுக்க, நீதிமன்றம் சென்றார் அவர்.

மெட்ராஸ் உயர்நீதிமன்ற மதுரை கிளை நீதிபதி கிருஷ்ணன் ராமசாமி, "ஹிந்துவாக இருக்கும் வரை அம்மாதிரி சான்றிதழ் தர சட்டத்தில் இடமில்லை. எனவே, தாசில்தார் மறுத்தது சரியே" என்று வழக்கைத் தள்ளுபடி செய்ததோடு....

"ஹிந்துவாக இருக்கும் வரை உங்களுக்கு அந்த மாதிரி சான்றிதழ் தர இயலாது. மதம் மாறினீர்களென்றால் அம்மாதிரி சான்றிதழ் கிடைக்கும். எனவே, மதம் மாறிய பின் முயற்சிக்கவும்" என்று கூறியிருப்பது...

Accordingly, the writ petition was dismissed.

However, court granted liberty to the petitioner to take appropriate steps if he intends to relinquish his religion. The order states that since the petitioner is presently a Hindu and his parents are also Hindus, he may press for relinquishment of his religion and produce proof of such relinquishment before the authorities.
