KAKINADA: Crime Investigation Department (CID) police arrested Pastor Praveen Chakravarty on Thursday night for posting objectionable videos on social media denigrating another religion. Praveen Chakravarty posted videos on YouTube channel citing his mission to vandalise Hindu deities and he also mentioned that he vandalised many idols.

After receiving a complaint from Singam Venkata Sri Lakshminarayana of Guntur, CID additional DGP PV Sunil Kumar filed a case against Praveen Chakravarty resident of Kakinada, East Godavari after verifying his YouTube posts which are against a particular religion. Police filed a case against him under sections 153A, 153B, 1C, 505, 295A, 124A and 115. CID additional DGP Sunil Kumar said that they won't leave anyone who posts objectionable content on social media to disturb the communal harmony in the state. He further added that they will take action against those who spread hatred with irrespective of religion, region, caste, etc.
It is learnt that Pastor Praveen Chakravarty conspired to convert the villages as Jesus villages. It is learnt that the police seized his bank accounts. Pastor Praveen Chakravarty's conversation with a donor in the US has created a buzz on Twitter in which Praveen told to him that their association which consists of 3,642 pastors has changed 699 villages into Jesus villages. Praveen Chakravarthy, the notorious Christian pastor who had made abusive remarks against Hindu deities by threatening to kick and deface idols of Hindu Gods and creating ‘Christ Villages’, has been removed from the HDFC Bank’s ‘Neighbourhood Heroes’ campaign after he was arrested for creating enmity between different religious groups and offences in places of worship.
Andhra Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the pastor for his 2013 video. “We arrested him on Tuesday night itself at Kakinada. We brought him here (Guntur) and on the next day we produced him in the Court,” said R Vijaya Paul, CID Coastal superintendent of police (SP), adding the video is seven years and from 2013.
“The thing is that if somebody makes a complaint then we are there to verify it. This is not a suo motu case. Somebody has made a complaint, we verified it. We got him (Chakravarthy) and asked him, he said it is his own voice,” said the senior police officer.
The SP said the video is inflammatory in nature and police officials are verifying his bank transactions, including checking if any more such video were made.
Andhra Pradesh Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials have arrested a pastor, Praveen Chakravarthy, for allegedly featuring in a 7-year-old video in which he declared that he had kicked tree Gods and stone Gods.
"We arrested him on Tuesday night itself at Kakinada. We brought him here (Guntur) and on the next day we produced him in the Court," said R Vijaya Paul, CID Coastal superintendent of police (SP), adding the video is seven years and from 2013.
"That's what he said. We have written the same in his confession statement. That's of 2013," said Paul.
Police arrested the pastor under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 153 A, 294, 124 and other relevant ones.
The SP said the video is inflammatory in nature and police officials are verifying his bank transactions, including checking if any more such video were made.
Though the video emerged in 2013, before even the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh, Paul said no case has been filed against this video all these years.
"The thing is that if somebody makes a complaint then we are there to verify it. This is not a suo motu case. Somebody has made a complaint, we verified it. We got him (Chakravarthy) and asked him, he said it is his own voice," said the senior police officer.
Paul clarified that though the video is not from the current time, it is still offensive and said that the CID is acting on this case for the first time.
"We are not taking the punishment second time. This is the first time. On this video, nobody has taken any action," he observed.
As the supervising officer in this case, Paul said the investigating officer has clearly mentioned that the video is more than five years old.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary and AP co-incharge, Sunil Deodhar, released a video statement questioning Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy over the video which emerged during the time when Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy was the CM of united AP, before Nara Chandra Babu Naidu became the CM in 2014.
