India’s highway toll collections hit a record high.
• Rajasthan: ₹24,310 crore
• Uttar Pradesh: ₹23,873 crore
• Maharashtra: ₹22,093 crore
• Gujarat: ₹21,183 crore
• Tamil Nadu: ₹17,527 crore
-Average wait time at toll plazas has collapsed from those beautiful Con-era days of 12.23 minutes under manual collection to just 40 seconds with FASTag.
-The shift toward barrier-less tolling (Multi-Lane Free Flow) using AI and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) is already underway, promising true free-flow highways.
FY26 (Apr–Dec): ₹50,345 crore collected already(82% of the entire FY25 total)
Five-year growth: Total toll collections are up 120% since FY21. This surge is driven by rapid highway network expansion, higher traffic volumes, and strong commercial vehicle growth.
Toll revenues directly enable fresh expressway construction, upgrades, and maintenance, creating a self-reinforcing cycle of better roads and higher throughput.
