ஆந்திரப் பிரதேசம் மற்றும் தமிழ்நாட்டின் சில பகுதிகளில் நிலவி வரும் ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் பழமையான பாரம்பரியத்தின் ஒரு பகுதி இது.

ஹைதராபாத் புறநகரில் அமைந்துள்ள புகழ்பெற்ற சில்கூர் பாலாஜி கோயிலின் அர்ச்சகரான சி.எஸ். ரங்கராஜன், ஒரு சமூகப் புரட்சியின் முன்னணியில் இருக்கிறார்.

தலித்துகளுக்கு எதிரான வன்முறைகள் அதிகரித்து வரும் இந்த காலகட்டத்தில், 60 வயதான பிராமணரான ரங்கராஜன், அனைத்து தடைகளையும் மீறி சாதி அமைப்பை ஒழிக்க முயற்சித்து வருகிறார்.

ரங்கராஜன் ஒரு இயக்கத்தை மீண்டும் உயிர்ப்பித்துள்ளார், அது இப்போது மற்ற அர்ச்சகர்களாலும் முன்னெடுக்கப்படுகிறது. முனி வாகன சேனா என்பது சாஸ்திரங்களில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ள ஒரு பழமையான சடங்காகும். இதில் ஒரு அர்ச்சகர் தலித் பக்தரைத் தன் தோளில் சுமந்து செல்வார்.

முனி வாகன சேனா முதன்முதலில் சுமார் 2,700 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு நிகழ்த்தப்பட்டதாக ஒரு பாரம்பரியக் கதை உள்ளது. ஸ்ரீரங்கத்தில் உள்ள ஸ்ரீ ரங்கநாத சுவாமி கோயிலின் அர்ச்சகர் ஒருவர், காவேரி ஆற்றிலிருந்து ஒரு தாழ்த்தப்பட்ட சாதி பக்தரை கோயிலுக்குத் தோளில் சுமந்து சென்றார்.

ஒரு வகையில், இந்த இயக்கம் சாதியை ஒழித்து சமத்துவத்தை நிலைநாட்டுவதன் மூலம் இந்து மதத்தின் அனைவரையும் உள்ளடக்கிய ஒரு வடிவத்தை ஊக்குவிக்கிறது.

Part of a thousand-year-old tradition prevalent in parts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.CS Rangarajan, a priest at the famous Chilkur Balaji temple located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, is at the forefront of a social revolution.

At a time when violence against Dalits are increasing and lynch mobs are taking the law into their hands, Rangarajan, a 60 year old Brahmin, is defying all odds and trying to eradicate the caste system.

Rangarajan has revived a movement that is now being taken up by other priests. Muni Vahana Sena -- an age-old ritual mentioned in the scriptures -- is the practice of a priest carrying a Dalit devotee on his shoulders.

Tradition has it that Muni Vahana Sena was first performed some 2,700 years ago. A priest from Srirangam's Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple carried a low caste devotee to the temple from the Cauvery river.

In a way the movement promotes an inclusive version of Hinduism by eradicating caste and endorsing equality.
