This is an absolutely amazing speech by an imam in Brisbane.
Holland Park Mosque Imam Uzair Akbar: “In my country, Pakistan, if non-Muslim minorities carried out a Bondi style attack, we Muslims would burn their houses and murder every person. We are a minority in Australia. Still we are walking and talking and praying in our mosques. So give credit to Australia.
We cannot allow compromise on this topic because it is detrimental to the image of Islam. Pray for this. If you know someone with radical views, speak to them. Don’t brush it under the carpet, because another monster will come out. And how many monsters will Australia tolerate?”
On one level it’s good that he passionately condemns the terrorists and openly admits that Australia is losing patience with jihadists.
But on another level it’s pretty bleak and disturbing that he frames opposition to extremism only as a pragmatic step that
