சோழர் கால நாகரீக ஓவியங்களில் தமிழரின் சனாதன அடையாளம் நீக்க திராவிடியம் உத்தரவு

 “சிங்கார சென்னை 2.0” என்ற அழகுபடுத்தும் திட்டத்தின் ஒரு பகுதியாக, ராஜாஜி சாலையில் உள்ள 500 மீட்டர் ரிசர்வ் வங்கி சுரங்கப்பாதையின் ஓரங்களில் சோழர் கால ஓவியங்களில் தமிழர் மெய்யியல் சனாதன இந்து அடையாளம் மாற்ற கட்டளை

சோழர் கால ஓவியங்களை அழகுபடுத்தும் பணியின் ஒரு பகுதியாக மீண்டும் உருவாக்கும் முயற்சியில் இந்து தெய்வங்களை "சிறப்பம்சமாக" காட்ட வேண்டாம் என்று சென்னை மாநகராட்சி கலைஞர்களை கேட்டுக் கொண்டுள்ளது. நிறுவனத்திடம் புகார் அளித்த சில குழுக்களிடமிருந்து "அழுத்தம்" இருப்பதாக கலைஞர்கள் குற்றம் சாட்டுகின்றனர். 

இப்போது நம்மிடம் உள்ள சோழர் கால ஓவியங்கள் முக்கியமாக கோவில்களில் இருந்து வருவதால், இந்து தெய்வங்களை "சிறப்பாக" காட்டாமல் அதை எவ்வாறு மீண்டும் உருவாக்க முடியும் என்று கலைஞர்கள் ஆச்சரியப்படுகிறார்கள்.

“சிங்கார சென்னை 2.0” என்ற அழகுபடுத்தும் திட்டத்தின் ஒரு பகுதியாக, ராஜாஜி சாலையில் உள்ள 500 மீட்டர் ரிசர்வ் வங்கி சுரங்கப்பாதையின் ஓரங்களில் சோழர் கால ஓவியங்களை வரைவதற்கு சென்னை மாநகராட்சி ஓவியக் கலைஞர்களை பணியமர்த்தியது. இது திமுகவின் செல்லப்பிள்ளை திட்டம். 20% கலைப் பணிகள் நிறைவடைந்துள்ள நிலையில், சர்ச்சையை ஏற்படுத்தாத வண்ணம் ஓவியங்களை "மாற்றியமைக்க" கலைஞர்களுக்கு மாநகராட்சி அதிகாரிகள் அழைப்பு விடுத்துள்ளனர். சில கலைஞர்கள், பெயர் தெரியாத நிலையில், TOI இடம் குறிப்பிட்ட சில குழுக்களின் அழுத்தம் இருப்பதாகக் கூறினர்.

  

இருப்பினும், மாநகராட்சி ஆணையர் (பணிகள்) எம்.எஸ்.பிரசாந்த், இந்தக் குற்றச்சாட்டை மறுத்ததோடு, இது முற்றிலும் உள்விவகாரம் என்று கூறினார். அதற்கு அவர்கள் கூறிய காரணம், அந்த ஓவியங்களின் சில அம்சங்கள், சென்னை மாநகராட்சியால் அங்கீகரிக்கப்படவில்லை என்றும், அதைச் சரி செய்யச் சொன்னார்கள். குடிமை அமைப்பின் ட்விட்டர் கைப்பிடி பிப்ரவரி 2 அன்று முடிக்கப்பட்ட வேலையின் பகுதியைப் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டது.

ட்விட்டர் பயனர்களிடமிருந்து இது நிறைய பாராட்டுகளைப் பெற்றது, அவர்கள் நகரத்தின் பிற பகுதிகளிலும் இதேபோன்ற கலைப்படைப்பு செய்யப்பட வேண்டும் என்று விரும்பினர். ஆனால், "மாற்றியமைக்க" உத்தரவிடுவதற்கு இடையில் என்ன நடந்தது என்பது தெளிவாகத் தெரியவில்லை. இந்த திட்டத்தை கையகப்படுத்திய குழுவில் அங்கம் வகிக்கும் கலைஞர்களில் ஒருவர் TOI இடம், கலைப்படைப்பு மதம் பற்றியது என்று தவறான புரிதல் இருப்பதாகவும், அவற்றை "தமிழ் கலாச்சாரம் மற்றும் பாரம்பரியம்" சித்தரிப்பதாகவும் கூறினார்.

குடிமை அமைப்புடன் தனது முந்தைய பணிக்காக பாராட்டுகளைப் பெற்ற ஒப்பந்ததாரர் விஜய், "சிலைகளை மாற்றியமைக்க" தன்னிடம் கேட்கப்பட்டதாகக் கூறினார். அவர் மேலும் கூறுகையில், "நான் மேற்கொண்ட கருப்பொருளை விளக்கினேன், மேலும் பிற மத நம்பிக்கைகளின் ஓவியங்களும் சேர்க்கப்படும் என்று அவர்களிடம் கூறினேன்".

சோழர் காலப் பண்பாடாகக் காட்சியளிக்கும் இந்து தெய்வங்களை யாரோ ஒருவருக்குப் பிரச்சனை செய்து அவற்றை மாற்றியமைக்க மாநகராட்சிக்குச் சென்றது தெளிவாகிறது. கார்ப்பரேஷனின் ட்விட்டர் கைப்பிடியால் பகிரப்பட்ட ஓவியங்கள் தெய்வீக ஜோடி ஈஸ்வரா மற்றும் பார்வதியைக் காட்டுகிறது. ரிஷி முனிகள் மற்றும் பக்வா ஆகியோரையும் ஓவியங்களில் காணலாம். இந்தி எதிர்ப்பு திமுக அரசின் உதவியுடன் தங்கள் அதிகாரத்தைப் பிரயோகித்த இந்து விரோதிகளுக்கு இடையூறு ஏற்படுத்தியதில் வியப்பில்லை.

துறவி கவிஞர் திருவள்ளுவர், மகாகவி பாரதியார், சுதந்திரப் போராட்ட வீரர் வ.உ.சிதம்பரம் பிள்ளை போன்றோரின் ஹிந்துக்கள் நீக்கப்பட்ட படங்களைப் பயன்படுத்துவதை திமுக, திராவிட அமைப்புகளும், அவர்களின் அனுதாபிகளும் வழக்கமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளனர். எனவே, இந்து தெய்வங்களை "மாற்றியமைக்கும்" இந்தச் செயலானது, வரலாற்றையும் மறைக்கும் முயற்சியாகவே பார்க்கப்படுகிறது. .

The Chennai corporation has asked artists to not “highlight” Hindu deities in an effort to re-create Chola era paintings as a part of beautification work. Artists allege “pressure” from certain groups which had complained to the corporation. As the Chola era paintings we have now are mainly from temples, artists wonder how it can be re-created without “highlighting” Hindu deities.

The Chennai corporation had hired painting artists to draw Chola era paintings on the sidewalls of 500 meter RBI subway on Rajaji Road as part of the beautification program “Singara Chennai 2.0”. It is a pet project of DMK. After 20% of the art has been completed, artists have been called by the corporation officials to ask them to “modify” the paintings so as not to stir up any controversy. Some artists, on the condition of anonymity, told TOI that there was pressure from certain groups which complained to the corporation. 

However MS Prashanth, Commissioner (works) of the corporation, denied the allegation and said that it is “purely an internal matter”. The reason they gave is that some aspects of the paintings were not approved by the Greater Chennai Corporation and that they simply asked to rectify it. The civic body’s Twitter handle had shared the completed part of work on February 2.

It received a lot of admiration from Twitter users who wanted the same kind of artwork to be done in other parts of the city as well. But it is unclear what happened in between to order them to be “modified”. One of the artists who has been part of the team that has taken up this project told TOI that there is a misunderstanding that the artwork is about religion and termed them as a depiction of “Tamil culture and heritage”.

Contractor Vijay who had received accolades for his prior work with the civic body said that he was asked to “modify the idols”. He further said “I explained the theme undertaken and further told them that paintings from other religious beliefs too will be included”.

It is clear that someone had a problem with Hindu deities being displayed as Chola era culture and went to the corporation to get them modified. The paintings shared by the Corporation’s twitter handle shows the divine couple Eshwara and Parvati. Rishi munis and Bhagwa can also be spotted among the paintings. It is not surprising that it disturbed anti-Hindu elements who exercised their power with the help of anti-Hindu DMK government. 

DMK, Dravidian organisations and their sympathisers have the habit of using dehinduised pictures of Saint poet Thiruvalluvar, Mahakavi Bharathiyar, freedom fighter VO Chidambaram Pillai, etc. So this act of “modifying” Hindu deities is seen as an attempt to dehinduise the history as well.
