உலகம் எங்கும் இறைவனை வணங்கும் சனதானம் ஏற்பது பெருகுவதன் அடையாளமே
BanarasA picture of the great Australian captain Steve Waugh is going viral on social media. In 2017, he had come to Banaras with some of his companions and he immersed the ashes of his friend Brian in the Ganges according to Hindu customs. In the picture, in the presence of a Brahmin, he is seen standing in a boat on the ghat and pouring the ashes into the Ganges.
Actually, his friend Brian, who used to work as a cobbler, had no one in the family. Brian of Sydney’s last wish was that his ashes be immersed in the Ganges in Benares as per Hindu rituals. Waugh came to India to fulfill this promise. Let us tell you that Waugh is associated with many charity organizations and keeps doing social work.
Regarding this, he said at that time, ‘It was an opportunity of a lifetime for me and I really wanted to visit Banaras. It has a very spiritual feeling. It’s great to have Brian (Rudd)’s remains flowing. His life was very difficult and there was no one in his family. His last wish was that the ashes should be immersed in the Ganges. It was a celebration of his life.
It is noteworthy that Kashi i.e. Banaras is considered very sacred for the people of Hinduism. It is believed that the person who dies or is cremated here is blessed with Baikuntha (heaven or salvation).
