Kerala Council For Historical Research கேரள வரலாற்றாய்வுக் கழகம், இயக்குனர் பி.ஜெ.செரியன் என்ற கிறிஸ்துவ சர்ச் நட்பில் ஆன தனி அமைப்பு எர்ணாகுளத்தில்  இருந்து 26 கீமீ தூரத்தில் உள்ள பட்டணம் எனும் இடத்தில் அகழாய்வு நடத்தியதாக  6 குழிகளைத் தோண்டி, அவற்றில் பல பொருட்கள் கிடைத்தது எனவும்; சங்க கால முசுறி தான் பெரியாறு ஓரமுள்ள பட்டணம் என்றும்  கதை பரப்பி வருகிறது.

 கேராளாவின் கொடுங்கல்லூர் நவீன துறைமுகங்கள் ஏற்படுமுன் கடந்த 1000 ஆண்டுகளாய் முக்கிய இயற்கை துறைமுகமாய் இருந்தது. தமிழரின் சங்க இலக்கியம் (பொமு100 - பொஆ 700) பாடல்களில்மேற்கு கடற்கரையில் முக்கியத் துறைமுகம் என முசிறி எனும் பெயரோடு இந்த கொடுங்கல்லூரை இணைத்துப் பார்த்தனர். 

திருவனந்தபுரத்தில் மூன்று நாள் தேசிய மாநாட்டில் இந்திய  தொல்லியல் சங்கத்தின் ஆண்டு மாநாட்டில் (Indian Archaeological Society, Indian Society for Prehistoric and Quaternary Studies & Indian History and Culture Society)-   பி.ஜே.செரியன் பட்டணம் குறித்த தனது கட்டுரையை வழங்கிய பின்னர் அது கடுமையாக விமர்சிக்கப்பட்டது.  P.J.செரியன் மற்றும் பட்டணம் அகழ்வாராய்ச்சியின் தன்மை கேள்வி  எழுப்பிட  பன்னாட்டு அறிஞர்களால் நிராகரிக்கப் பட்டது.

கொடுங்கலூர் பகுதிகள் கடலுக்கு அடியில் இருந்தது என்பதை கிறிஸ்துவ சர்ச்சும் உறுதிப் படுத்தியுள்ளது.

 History of Christianity in India, Vol. I, by Fr. A. Mathias Mundadan, Professor of Church History and Theology at the Dharmaram Pontifical Institute, Bangalore, in says 

Opinion seems to be Unanimously in supporting the Hypothesis that the whole or Greater part of the western section of the Kerala coast was once under waters and that the formation of the Land was due to some process of nature either gradual or Sudden. Page-12

Cherian, however, still shies from admitting that the site is indeed Muziris or Muchiripattanam: 

This very interesting interpretation is to escape from the controversy related to the present identification Pattanam as the early port Muziris by Cheriyan and Team . Now we have to investigate Entire coast of kerala for locating Muziris.

ഡൊ:ചെറിയാനും സംഘവും വളരെ കാലമായി പട്ടണമാണു മുസിരിസ് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ഉറപ്പിക്കാന്‍ നോ‍ക്കുന്നു.ഇതിനു തക്കതെളിവുകള്‍ ഇതുവരെ കിട്ടിയിട്ടുമില്ല.500 കോടി രൂപവരെ ടൂറിസം അടിസ്ത്ഥാനമാക്കിയുള്ള പുരാഖനനത്തിനു അവിടെ വേണ്ടി വരും എന്നാണു കണക്ക്.ഈ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിലാണു വേണ്ടത്ത്ര തെളിവില്ലാതെ ലോകം മുഴുവനുള്ള മാദ്ധ്യമങ്ങളില്‍ മുസിരിസ് കണ്ടെത്തി എന്നു പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്.കണ്ടെത്തുന്നതു നല്ലതാണു.കേരളത്തിനു അഭിമാനിക്കാം.
ഈ വിധത്തിലുള്ള അടിസ്ത്ഥാനരഹിതമായ പ്രചരണമാണു എതിറ്ക്കപ്പെടുന്നതു. ഈ പശ്ച്ചാത്തലത്തിലാണു പി ജെ ചെറിയാന്റെ ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ പ്രസ്ത്താവനശ്രദ്ധിക്കേണ്ടതു.ഒരു കേരളതീരം മുഴുവനുമായിരിക്കാം മുസിരിസ് എന്നു ഒരു മുഴം നീട്ടി ഒരേറു.!!!പക്ഷേ ഇതൊരു പുരാവസ്ത്തുഗവേഷകന്‍ പറയുമോ?
