இது தொடர்பான வழக்கை விசாரித்த கொல்லம் 'போக்சோ' சட்ட சிறப்பு நீதிமன்றம், அவர் குற்றவாளி என நேற்று முன்தினம் அறிவித்தது. அவருக்கான தண்டனை நேற்று அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.அதன்படி, மூன்று சிறுவர்கள் மீதான வழக்குகளில் தலா ஐந்து ஆண்டு, ஒரு சிறுவன் வழக்கில் மூன்றாண்டு தண்டனையும் விதிக்கப்பட்டது.

Thiruvananthapuram: A Catholic priest has been awarded 18 years of imprisonment by a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court on Friday in Kerala ’s Kollam district. The priest was found guilty of sexually abusing four minor seminarians. The priest identified as Thomas Parekkulam is 35-year-old, he belongs to Catholic congregation Society of France based St. Eugene De Mazendo . In 2017, he was working as a parish priest under the Punalur diocese in Kollam district when the four cases were registered against him. He was sentenced to five years imprisonment each in three cases and a jail term of three years in the fourth case by the court of Kollam additional sessions court (POCSO) judge, KN Sujith , reported The Indian Express. According to the verdict, the sentence would run consecutively (one after another). The priest is a native of Kasargod has been ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 1 lakh by the court. At the time of the crime Parekkulam was working as a parish priest under Punalur diocese, said the prosecution. At that time, a few seminarians were staying with him in a rented house in Kottathala, the seminarians were in Class 12. The seminarians pursued higher secondary education in Kollam. The minor seminarianswere subjected to abuse by Parekkulam at his over a period of time. Kollam, April 30: A Kerala court has sentenced a Christian priest to 18 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing four minor boys of a seminary in Kollam district five years ago.
Fr Thomas Parekkulam (35), a member of Chennai-based SDM minor seminary, was on Friday found guilty of the crime registered by police in Puthoor under Kottarakkara circle in the commission of offences punishable under Section 377 (unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The young victims, all aged 16 at the time of the incident, were the students of a seminary in Pullamala in the district wherein the accused was serving as a rector.
Sentencing the priest to five years each in three cases and three years sentence in the fourth case, Additional District and Sessions Judge (POCSO) K N Sujith also ordered him to pay a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each for every case. Considering the trauma suffered by the victims in the sexual attacks, the court also recommended to the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to award adequate compensation to the victims commensurate to the physical as well as mental trauma suffered by them.
“The factual circumstances emerged in the instant case would show that, attributing to sexual attack the victim boys were subjected to, they had suffered physical as well as mental trauma and ergo, it is necessary to rehabilitate them,” the court said.
The accused, who went absconding after escaping from police custody, was arrested from Chennai, the office of the district public prosecutor said. The case was registered and investigated based on a complaint received by the Child Welfare Committee in Thiruvananthapuram, the office said.Kollam: A Kerala court has sentenced a religious teacher to 18 years in prison for sexually harassing children.

In this connection, the Kottarakkara Saragam Buttu police registered a case under Section 377 (unnatural offense) of the Indian Penal Code and four sections under the Pokso Act and arrested Thomas.
Following the completion of the final hearing in the case, Kollam District Sessions Court Judge K.N. Sujith was recently set on fire. Accordingly, he was sentenced to five years each in the 3rd case and three years in the 4th case for a total of 18 years.
The judge also ordered religious pastor Thomas Barekulam to pay Rs 1 lakh each in the four cases and instructed the District Legal Services Commission to distribute the amount to the victim’s children.
